About

Bossie Entertainment, LLC proudly presents Yolanda Johnson, a 3rd generation musician, vocalist, songwriter & entertainer from the prominent Cagnolatti/Barbarin musical family greats originating out of New Orleans, LA.  Born, raised and exposed to a variety of music genres at an early age, Jazz and "2nd Line" music was very prominent in her household but as Yolanda grew in music, so did her passion for the Blues.  Her first live performance was at the age of 5 with family friend Jessie "Ooo Poo Pa Do" Hill while in concert in L.A. along with her Dad "Red" Johnson on sax. She was called up on stage...and the rest is history!

Performing since the early 1960's with her Dad's band throughout the Los Angeles communities, the stage is truly second nature to her.  Together her and her sax-man Pop, Lindor "Red" Johnson, won the hearts of many Los Angeles local political dignitaries at their public and private events and government fundraisers for our various Senators, Mayors and Governors.  Still today Yolanda Johnson often carries her father's sax on stage with her in his memory.  No matter how big or small the crowd, this Boss Lady knows how to bring it to you.  She very smoothly glides through her genres with ease and keeps her audiences engaged and on the edge of their seats.

Yolanda's first solo album, Creole Woman (EveJim Records), reached Top-10 charts of many US Blues and college stations.  Written by herself and produced by the world known Leon Haywood ("It's Got to Be Mellow" & "Bad Mammer Jammer") and the masterful Tony Coleman.  The album features six of her original songs including the charted hits, "Don't Go Looking (For Stuff You Don't Want To Find)", "Blues Party" and album title "Creole Woman" which flourished in the Carolina's.

A few of her most acclaimed moments were performing background vocals for Frank Sinatra on his last recorded TV special "Ole Blues Eyes Is Back", opening for King Floyd, Engelbert Humperdinck and Freda Payne; performing with the Raylettes in a tribute show for Ray Charles; and performing for Dick Clark where she brought her New Orleans flair to Dick Clark and his lovely wife's Mardi Gras themed American Music Award After Party...and yes, she had Dick and Kari up learning the New Orleans second line along with a host of many other awardees! Kari said, "...it was the best party ever!" She recently opened for David Benoit with Mardi Indians & Second Line Dancers and the crowd went wild!!

Noteworthy collaborations include recording with Frank Sinatra, rap group Penthouse Players Clique, Ike Turner, Jimmy Hewitt and Lazy Brad Lewis.  A few performance venues include Walt Disney Concert Hall, House of Blues, BB Kings, Shrine Auditorium, Spaghetinni's, L.A. Convention Center, Wilshire Ebel Theatre, The Baked Potato and Catalina Bar & Grill.  Outdoor performances include Disneyland, Long Beach Big Time Blues Festival, Los Angeles Blues Festival, San Luis Obispo Blues Festival, Chords & Vines Radio Live Anniversary show, La Quinta Music Festival and a host of other local city festivals. She has also been performing locally for the Los Angeles County & City entities as a preferred vendor for numerous community events since the early 80's getting the kids & community involved in her show.

Yolanda graduated from the Young Saints Academy of Performing Arts & Trades where she honed her vocal skills in jazz, ballads and opera under the instruction of Evelyn Freeman & Tommy Roberts and dance skills under the instructions of the world famous Fajar Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers.  Immediately after graduating, she began teaching there until the shcool closed in 1992, educating and working with South Central L.A.'s underprivileged youth.  Some of her students have gone on to be well known industry acts.

Yolanda's versatility pours out on stage as her New Orleans soul spills out into her heart wrenching blues and then she turns the page and belts out jazz ballads that takes you back in time.  But if it's R & B or Soul you're looking for, she's got that covered to as she gets out in the audience and line-dances with her audience.  Her versatility is contributed to her past performances with musical icons such as Frank Sinatra all the way to Big Mama Thornton.  Rather it be her sharing stories of her past, or just jumping straight into the groove...everyone walks away satisfied. Yolanda is currently performing with a 4-peice band which she calls her "All Star Review" band and also working with the incredible sax-man Kenny Rice as a duo.  For the full effect of her powerhouse show, you have got to see the 7-piece "All Star Review" with full horn section. The size of musicians is adjusted according to the entertainment budget. Further band detail is included on the EPK tab.
